Finally, it’s here! It’s Crocktober-the official season for cooking with crock pots! I still use my crock pot in the summer, for things like Homemade Yogurt and Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken, but when the leaves change their colors and my kids reluctantly trade their sandals for socks and shoes, my slow cooker returns from its summer break to full-time duty in the Hancock household.

Here are a few tips for cooking with a crock pot:

  • Trim off any visible fat from cuts of meat. Fat will make the dishes cook faster.
  • Liquids do not evaporate during slow cooker cooking.
  • Use whole leaf herbs and spices instead of ground for better flavor. Some spices, especially pepper, can become bitter over a long cooking time. For the best flavor, add those in the last hour of cooking.

I’m turning to my readers to ask you for your help in compiling as many crock pot recipes as we can! List your family’s favorites, the tried-and-true recipes you grew up with, and your holiday traditions.  From soups to meats to pasta dishes, if you make it in your crock pot, list it below.

You can find all of my Crock Pot Recipes HERE. Please share your Crock Pot Recipes below.
