Why It is Important for Your Daughter to Know She is a Princess

Why it is Important for your Daughter to Be a Princess

It’s so fun to be the mom of a little girl. My daughter loves all the typical girly stuff (don’t worry—she is tough as nails on the soccer field!) like playing dress up and trying on my jewelry and high heels. And she loves stories about princesses. Whether it is princesses from fairy tales like Cinderella or movies like Kiara (now available from Redbox), or even a real-life princess like England’s Princess Kate, she is fascinated. That’s why I was so excited to introduce her to my favorite royal character in the Bible: Queen Esther.

Over the past several months, I’ve been talking with my sweet girl about what it means to be a daughter of the King, the real King, our Lord Jesus. As a Christian mom, it is very important to me that she knows that she truly is a princess, a daughter who is oh, so valuable to her Heavenly Father. that she know, in being a Daughter of the King, she has great blessing, but also great responsibility.

When we read the story of Esther together, we see a young woman who can manage her way around royal protocol and meet head on the challenge of doing the right thing—even when it is at great personal cost—for the sake of others. That’s noble. That’s courageous. That’s what a princess (or in this case, a queen) does. She is called (by God) to a higher standard, she is an example for others. Help your daughter understand the concept of what a real princess does, which is serving others, with some of these ideas. Encourage her to:

  • Let siblings go first when taking turns or playing with toys.
  • Get Daddy a cold drink when he is working outside.
  • Help with younger siblings’ needs (changing diapers, feeding, bathing).
  • Serve neighbors by getting the mail or paper for an elderly person.
  • Volunteer with you at local help centers and food closets.
  • Gather supplies to fill an Operation Christmas Child shoebox.

It is so important to let our daughters know who God says they are before the world tells them that they are something less than that. Take some time today to cuddle up for a movie or story with your little princess. The time you spend with her, one on one, helps her know how valuable she is to you.

Have you seen the movie Kiara? Because it got some terrible reviews and I wondered what you thought of it.
