Each year I try to pick a word (or words) that really speaks to what I think God wants me to focus on in my character and life. I feel the power of words – both written and spoken – and oftentimes I think that is how God chooses to communicate with us. This year, I felt a strong pull to the words “JOY” and “LOVE”. Joy has really been a theme for me the last few years – it’s like God is trying to tell me something. Throughout this year, especially with our adoption, I have felt that God wanted my concept of joy to be expressed through how I love others. And that has never come more full circle for me than in the adoption of our sweet little boy we brought home in July.
Not only do words matter to me, but I have always loved the meaning in a name. When we were deciding a name for our sweet addition, it was important for me that it fit who God crafted him to be. We chose Ladd because it’s an old family name. However, after doing some research of the name, I discovered it’s meaning is “humble servant of the Lord”. I loved it even more! I can not wait to talk to him about the meaning of his name and what God has planned for him.
Last week, I was choosing some of the beautiful new #Wordsmatter Letterpress Blocks from DaySpring. I went back and forth over which “word” to choose. There are so many creative possibilities! I ended up choosing Ladd and I am thrilled with how it looks in his room!
Do you have a word that speaks to you this year? I want to encourage you to create your own and display it as a reminder of not only the promises of the Lord fulfilled and unfulfilled, but of the character and awesomeness of our God.
Which word did you choose? I would love to hear your stories of how God has used a specific word to speak life into you and encourage you.

Thankful, that’s my word. I’m learning this year to be more thankful. So many scriptures show us that thankfulness brings blessing. It’s all in how you look at things, perspective. So, I’m learning. ….. sometimes more slowly than other times. Oh, and I’m preparing a devotion on the Word (power of words, Word was made flesh, etc) so I’ll be looking forward to reading others meaningful ‘ words’.
